    COURSE OBJECTIVES
    • Upon completion of the program, the Physical Therapist will be confident in applying evidence-based clinical assessment skills for the classification of individuals presenting with acute, sub-acute or persistent lumbo-pelvic pain.

    • Physical Therapists will also be able to confidently identify several potential contributing physical. psychosocial and general health factors to persistent lumbo-pelvic pain.

    • Upon determining the classification and all the potential contributing factors, Physical Therapists will be able to administer the most effective treatment / management option based on the UNIQUE presentation of the patient.

    • Physical Therapists will be provided with a Textbook & a DVD-ROM that will systematically guide the subjective and physical evaluation process.

      i) Potential “Serious Pathology” / “Red Flags”
      a. Spinal Fracture
      b. Spinal Cancer
      c. Spinal Infection
      d. Cauda Equina Syndrome
      e. Spinal Cord Syndrome
      f. Ankylosing Spondylosis
      g. Visceral Referral

      ii) Inflammatory / Post Acute (<6 weeks) Specific Trauma

      iii) Irreducible Derangement Syndrome

      iv) Reducible Derangement Syndrome
      a. Extension Principle
      b. Flexion Principle
      c. Relevant lateral component

      v) Dysfunction Syndrome
      a. Flexion Dysfunction

    CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE
      This program is restricted to Registered Physical Therapists who are licensed to practice in Canada.

      Prior completion of the following 6 APTEI courses is highly recommended, but not compulsory:

      1) Lumbar Spine: Articular Dysfunctions
      2) Lumbar Spine: Motor Control
      Impairment (Available on DVD/Book Self-study Program)
      3) Lumbar Spine: Neural Tissue Mechanosensitivity (Available on DVD/Book Self-study Program)
      4) Sacro-iliac Joint (Available on DVD/Book Self-study Program)
      5) Thoracic Spine (Part 1)
      6) Hip Complex (Part 1) (Available on DVD/Book Self-study Program)

      Note: Only the DVD portion of the 4 self-study courses can be provided in advance to all registrants at nominal tuition fee ($25 per DVD)
